Dr. Xiao (Shawn) Zhu xiaoshawnzhu@gmail.com

I currently work at Google. I earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan, advised by Professor Z. Morley Mao. My research is on developing mobile systems and networking support for characterizing and improving emerging Internet applications, with a focus on optimizing video streaming and playback systems. Before my Ph.D. study, I got a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Tsinghua University, in China, where I was born and raised.

At Google, I tackle real-world challenges in optimizing and personalizing video playback experiences for billions of users across the globe, with innovations in mobile systems and networking, multimedia streaming, machine learning, etc.
